HARMONIC FILTERS

Overcoming the challenges of harmonics

Power electronics is increasingly used for industrial and tertiary applications such as:

Variable speed drives, rectifiers, inverters, stabilized power supplies, welding machines, computers, TV, low-energy lamps, photocopiers.

These loads generate disruptions on the power grid that become real threats to equipment.

High harmonic currents and voltages can cause the following phenomena:

  • Overheating of the cables.

  • Tripping of circuit breakers.

  • Fuse melting.

  • Overloading of capacitors and resonance of networks.

  • Overloading of the neutral wire.

  • Transformer saturation.

  • Disturbance of sensitive electronic devices.
